In a short ceremony before the race, Loughton AC announced the trophies awarded to the winning teams would henceforth be known as the George Richardson trophies in recognition of George's stalwart service to the club over the past 70 years.

Firstly as an athlete – who still holds several club age-group records – and then as a club official, committee member, timekeeper and race organiser George has given outstanding service not just to Loughton AC but also to the Chingford League and wider athletic community. We were delighted that George was able to join us for the announcement and to start the race.
