Except where indicated, the cost of training is covered by the annual subscription.
New and prospective club members are most welcome at training sessions
Loughton Athletic Club is a small, friendly, club run by its members for its members.
Our runners, throwers, jumpers and walkers compete in track and field meetings in the summer and at cross country and road racing fixtures during the winter.
Many of our members simply want to run to keep fit and are happy to train and compete informally. The club actively encourages this type of participation.
In the summer season, teams compete in the Southern Men's League, the Southern
Women's League, the Eastern Veteran's League and the Essex Walking League. In addition the club stages its own (fairly informal) club championships
for most of the Track an Field events.
During the winter we compete in the Essex Cross Country League, the Chingford League as well as County Regional and National Championships, and at many individual events. The club also stages a number of fixtures of its own.
The walking group are very active and competitive and support all the local, regional and national events.
A dedicated group of runners compete every year at the South of England Fell Running Championships on the Isle of Wight and at other similar races when available.

An number of Loughton Runners
experienced their first "real" fell races during the first weekends of
June.
Dave Tyson (pictured left) competed in the Pen-y-Ghent Race on 5th
June in. The Catergory A
race was 5.9 miles long with 1800 feet of climbing. Dave finished 97th
out of 131, in a creditable time of 75:23.
The following weekend, Helen Real and Duncan Rayney competed in the
Edale Race. This race was also a Category A and involved 4.7 miles with
1350 feet of ascent. In a field of 156, Helen finished 121st overall -
but 13th Woman! - in an excellent time of 56:27. Duncan found things a little
harder but finished 137th in a time of 59:50.
Older (or is that more experienced!)
runners, John Hart and Tony Maycraft also competed. John was 118th (5th
V60) at Edale in 56:05. Tony was 77th (15th V50) at Pen-y-Ghent in 70:55
and 88th (11th V50) at Edale in 50:14.
